Minister of Interior holds meeting of Operational Staff for crime prevention

Today, the Russian Ministry of the Interior held a regular meeting of the Operational Staff for crime prevention under the chairmanship of the Internal Affairs Minister Army General Rashid Nurgaliyev of the Russian Federation on the preparation of the Internal Affairs authorities and Internal Forces of Russia's MVD for ensuring law order and public security during the elections of the President of the Russian Federation.

The meeting was attended by Vladimir Churov, the Chairman of Central Election Commission of Russian Federation, Vladimir Lukin, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Ilya Reznik, the Chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Interior of Russia, and other officials, and through a videoconference - heads of territorial bodies of Russia's MVD,  deputy regional leaders who are responsible for security issues, chairmen of the territorial election commissions, Human Rights Commissioner in the Russian Federation Subjects.

The meeting discussed issues of coordination and cooperation between the law enforcement agencies, electoral commissions, public authorities and public organizations during the preparation and conduct of the elections of the President of the Russian Federation.

During the recent election campaign to the State Duma, the citizens, public organizations representatives and independent observers stressed that the police acted in a resolute and professional manner strictly within the powers granted by applicable law.

In this connection, the Operational Staff pointed out the need for the maximum use of the existing experience, including experience in matters of cooperation with the electoral commissions within the framework of the Agreement concluded between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Central Election Commission of Russia.

Russia's MVD has already identified a set of measures to ensure the law order and public safety during the preparation and holding of the presidential elections.

Thus, one of the most important tasks is to implement a package of measures to prevent crimes and offenses including those committed against the candidates, their representatives, public authorities, polling stations and voting citizens.

The meeting addressed the issue of equipping polling stations and other election facilities with security equipment including metal detectors.

The need was voiced for the round the clock monitoring and comprehensive analysis of the situation in the Russian regions in order to ensure the public order and public safety protection.
